WHAT IS BACHATA?
Bachata is a romantic partner dance from the Dominican Republic. A simple 4 step rhythm with a characteristic hip movement, mixing the sensual connection of the Bolero and the cheekiness of Merengue.
Bachata emerged from a long standing Pan-Latin American tradition of guitar music. Inhabitants of the shantytowns of the Dominican call it their own, though it is derived from the Bolero which is native to Cuba. It's subjects are often romantic; especially prevalent are tales of heartbreak and sadness.
For many years, it was not given airplay outside the Dominican as it was associated with the lower class and was too musically rustic to be allowed entrance into the mainstream musical landscape.
In the 1990s, Bachata's instrumentation changed from acoustic Spanish guitar to electric steel string. The new electric Bachata soon became an international phenomenon and today Bachata is as popular as Salsa and Merengue and danced in Latin clubs world wide. Some popular Bachata Artists include Aventura, Xtreme, Monchy y Alexandra, Toby Love, Frank Reyes, Prince Royce and many more!

BEYONDBEGINNERS / INTERMEDIATE
For those of you who have completed the beginners Bachata bootcamp or done a term of Beginners classes. Required knowledge for this bootcamp: Sound understanding of the Bachata basic steps & rhythm plus basic bachata turns. We will be explaining your skill of smooth body movement, introducing you to some fun Dominican Footwork and teaching some interesting turn patterns which are easy to lead and follow in the social setting. We will also give you some tips on how to Spice up your Bachata!
